Dowlin's Historic Old Mill Ruidoso
Built in 1868, the Old Mill is the oldest standing building in Ruidoso. The mill functioned as a grist mill, saw mill, bean thrasher and black smith shop. The mill, powered by a water-wheel, still works as a flour mill to this day. Legend has it that Billy the Kid was hidden from law enforcements inside a flour barrel at this mill.

Located just outside of Ruidoso, Fort Stanton was established in 1855 to protect Hispanic settlements from Apache raids. Visitors have the chance to see over 10 historic structures, including the guard house, the chapel and the commanding officer's quarters.
